Collateral is the asset pledged by the customer as security for a financial facility provided by the financial institution.

EXAMPLE:
  • Ship
  • House
  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Single stamp (or an entire collection)
  • Customer deposit
  • Portfolio

These collateral items are revalued against the prevailing market value on a regular or ad hoc basis. A right or link to collateral items are established to cover the liabilities of the customer.

Collateral items maintained in Temenos Transact can be valued automatically.

  • All or part of customer portfolio stocks and shares

This section covers the high-level parameterisation setup that defines and controls the collateralised limits.

1. COLLATERAL.PARAMETER

This application allows the user to define the company-level system parameter.

  • User can define if address is to be defaulted from CUSTOMER application.
  • To cover the currency conversion risk factor, margin for the collateral currency is also defined when limit currency is different from collateral currency.
  • To retain collateral records in live table, retention period value must be defined in the collateral parameter setup.
  • Specification to determine which balance from EB.CONTRACT.BALANCES table to be considered for updating in collateral record.
2. COLLATERAL.TYPE

This application allows the user to define different types of collaterals like building stocks and guarantees and so on.

  • Information in this table enables the client to arrive at collateral value, revaluation of collateral value and linking to other applications in Temenos Transact.
  • Market value or face value of the collateral, value for general ledger purpose, third party value (value of collateral item outside Temenos Transact) are specified in this table.
3. COLLATERAL.CODE

This application allows the user to determine how collateral values are re-allocated across central bank reporting lines.

  • Enables the system to perform recalculation of percentage of collateral cover applicable.
  • Enables the system to mention the default review frequency.
  • Enables the system to mention the default review frequency.
  • Enables to update Allocated Balance type, Utilized balance type and Unutilized balance type.
4. COLLATERAL.EXCLUSION

This application allows the user to define the criteria for the exclusion of collaterals. CURRENCY, COUNTRY, SECURITY.CODE, INDUSTRY, ISSUER and COUNTERPARTY values are used to define the criteria.

5. CO.CURRENCY

This application allows the user to define the rules to modify the lower advance ratio of the assets valued in a currency.

  • Enables the user to define the currency level concentration cap.
  • Enables the user to define the specific margin rates at product level.
6. CO.VALUATION.PARAMETER

This application allows the user to define the margin calculation, asset allocation, asset valuation for the collateral process.

  • Enables the user to specify if the collateral is allocated against limits or liabilities.
  • Enables the user to mention the discretionary portfolios.
7. CUSTOMER.COLLATERAL.TYPE This application allows the user to define specific collateral execution value for specific customers.
8. CO.ELIGIBILITY This application allows the user to define the eligibility rules for collateral against the limit products to which the collateral is linked.
9. CO.INDUSTRY This application allows the user to define the concentration cap at industry levels for security assets.
10. CO.RANKING This application allows the user to define the ranking rules for the collaterals against limit products.
11. CO.COUNTRY This application allows the user to define the concentration cap rules for the collateral country.
12. CO.COUNTRY.GROUP This application allows the user to define the concentration cap rules for a group of countries.
